A guesthouse run by a former pilgrim.
Opened in 2025, Guesthouse Hanari is a community-focused retreat limited to just two groups per day.
When I completed the full Shikoku Pilgrimage (‘Toshi-henro’) in the autumn of 2023, I witnessed a concerning reality: many traditional inns were closing due to an aging population. I felt a deep sense of crisis, worrying that the pilgrimage might one day lose its places of rest.
Driven by a desire to give back for the kindness and support we received during that journey, my partner and I decided to open our own pilgrim inn. With this gratitude in our hearts, we moved to Niihama City, Ehime.
Through a wonderful series of connections, everything fell into place, and we finally opened “Guesthouse Hanari” in Kitauchi-cho in 2025. We strive to provide a soothing space where pilgrims can find true peace and relaxation.
